Padraig had a day to forget at the Amgen Irish Open as he shoots a 77 to miss the cut. He again got off to a slow start before dropping three shots before the turn to be out in 39 shots. Birdies on the 10th and 17th holes erased some of the damage, as he dropped three more shots coming home, but a disasterous treple bogie seven on the last made it a tough finish. He is staying on the DP World Tour as he is playing next week at Wentworth in the prestigious BMW PGA Championship!
Padraig opens his account at the Amgen Irish Open with a one over par round of 71. He got off to a steady start with an early birdie on the par four second hole, followed by multiple pars to the turn. He continued in this vain up to the par three 14th hole where he missed a short putt for par. Another four footer for par on the 15th cost him another shot but he quickly regained that shot at the par three 16th hole where he hit his tee shot close. He finished poorly with a tee shot in a fairway bunker on 18 to sign for another bogey. He tees off late Friday at 1.45pm.
It’s a special week for Padraig as he plays in his home event at Doonbeg for the Amgen Irish Open. The event ties in nicely with next weeks flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship, so a who’s who of golf is playing this week with both Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm in the field, making it one of the strongest Irish Open fields in recent memory. Padraig will relish the links challenge this week and loves playing in front of the home fans. It is also the third qualifying event for the Ryder Cup so Captain Luke Donald will be paying close attention to players in form! An exciting week is guaranteed on a quality links course!
Tee Times -> Opening round at 9.40am with Eugenio Chacarra and Tyrrell Hatton.
