Heartbreak for Padraig as he loses in a playoff to Steve Alker at the Cologuard Classic. He got off to a flying start with an opening birdie and added two more to be out in three under par and in command of the tournament. His first dropped shot came at the par four 10th hole, but he hit back with three more birdies to lead by one shot playing the last. Unfortunately, a penalty drop on the 18th cost him the lead and a birdie from Steve in the playoff put paid to his chances of the win. Onwards and upwards!
Superb second round of six under par 65 sees Padraig vault to the top of the leaderboard with one round to go on Sunday. He got off to a bogey start and had three dropped shots but two eagles and five birdies were evidence of his fantastic play on the day! He had eight 3’s in the round and the two eagles came in the space of three holes, both on par fives! He will tee off in the final round with Tommy Gainey and Thongchai Jaidee.
Padraig opens his account at the Cologuard Classic with a solid round of five under par 66. He raced to the turn in 31 shots after a great opening salvo of three straight birdies. His round stalled somewhat, with a dropped shot on the par five 11th hole, where he incurred a penalty shot. He did pick up one more birdie at the par five 16th hole, where he got up and down from a greenside bunker. He trails by four and is currently in a tie for 7th place going into Saturdays second round.
Padraig continues his run on the PGA Champions Tour this week at the Cologuard Classic. It is being played in Tucson at the La Paloma Country Club, a Jack Nicklaus designed course.
