Padraig signs off for another year at the Dunhill Links with a closing round of three under par 69 which leaves him at fourteen under par and in a tie for 25th place.He got off to a quiet start with four straight pars before three birdies in sucession had him out in 33 shots around St Andrews. He added two more at the par four 10th hole and par four 12th hole before a costly finish with two dropped shots on the 16th and 17th holes put paid to an otherwise fruitful day! In the team event, a nine under par round had them just out side the top ten which was a valiant effort!
Padraig shoots a very pleasing round of four under par around the home of golf which sees him make the cut for Sundays final round and in more unexpected news, shoots a team round of 60 which included three nett eagles, to also make the team cut just on the mark at a whopping twenty eight under par. This incredibly trails by ten shots! His own card had just the one blemish on the par four 15th hole where he three putted from distance. The highlight was an eagle three on the par five 5th hole and it’s all to play for on Sunday!
Padraig struggled a bit on day two at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship around Kingsbarns but finished well to tackle St Andrews on Saturday. Padraig is currently at seven under par with fourteen under par leading going into the weekend, while in the team event, team Harrington trails by eight shots. He got off to a slow start with two early dropped shots on the par five five, 3rd hole and par four 4th hole. He finished the nine well with two birdies to be out in level par. Another shot was picked up at the par four, 10th hole, before giving that back on the par three, 15th hole. A strong finish, with two birdies in his last three holes kept a smile on his face with all to play for on Saturday!
Padraig had a good day which could have been a great day as he played some excellant golf around Carnoustie. Starting on the back nine, he got off to a solid start with a trio of early birdies and then hung on throughout the difficult closing stretch to be out in 33 shots. He then really turned on the style as he birdied four of his first five holes to stand at seven under par for the round. But two late bogies derailed an otherwise super days play. He tees off Friday at 9.22am around Kingsbarns which will give him a chance to go low!
Padraig plays this week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championhip, one of his favourite events of the year. As a past winner of both the team and the individual titles, it is an event that is both unique with its mix of top class links courses and all four seasons weatherwise, sometimes in one day! It is a stellar field again this week, with Matt Fitzpatrick the defending champion.
