A final round of three over par sees Padraig finish down the field but overall a good performance on a very tough course. He got off to a poor start with three opening bogeys which set the tone for the day but did hit back straight away with two birdies to be out in one over par. Three more dropped shots followed and he made his only birdie on the back nine at the par five 15th hole. He now travels on to Royal Portcawl in Wales to contest the Senior Open Championship, this, of course, was the scene for his last Walker Cup foray in 1997!
A tough day on the links for Padraig as he struggled to a two over par round of 73. He got off to a poor start with a dropped shot at the first but did pick that up again with a lovely two on the par three 6th hole. Three pars followed to be out in level par. A poor run over the next five holes saw him drop three shots but he rallied well coming home to birdie both par fives to sign for a 73. He tees off Sunday at 8.15am with Robert MacIntyre. The leader is at twelve under par going into the final round!
Padraig produces a fine round of level par to make the cut on the number at the Open Championship. On a day when some big names missed the cut, he hung tough when he found himself two over par for the day after ten holes and outside the cutline. He covered the last eight holes in two under par to secure a vital tee time at the weekend. He tees off in the third round at 9.25am with Scott Stallings.
Padraig opens his account at the Open Championship with a three over par round of 74 which leaves him in a tie for 88th place and work to do on Friday to make the cut. He got off to a solid start with three opening pars but then dropped four shots in the next three holes. He did pick up a shot at the par three 9th hole to be out in three over par. The back nine was more of the same with two birdies cancelling out two dropped shots. He will need to avoid the bunkers on Friday to progress as they are proving to be a real penalty! He tees off late at 2.15pm!
