Padraig has a round to forget as he struggled in the tough conditions at the Genesis Scottish Open. On a day when not too many players broke par, he got off to a slow start and was two over after playing the back nine first. He compounded the poor score with a double bogey six on the par four second hole, where he found a bunker off the tee. The only respite in the round came at the par three 6th hole where he made a birdie from six feet but three dropped shots to finish made it 76 shots for the day. Onward to St Andrews now and the 150th Open Championship!
Padraig shoots a four over par round of 74 but will rue a very poor finish in tough conditions. He was out in level par, picking up one shot and dropping another at the par three, 9th hole. He got that back straight away with a birdie four on the par five 10th hole to stand at one under par after thirteen holes. But three consecutive dropped shots and a horror double bogie at the last turned a promising card into a train wreck. He is out early tomorrow and will hope to record something in the 60’s to get back in the tournament again.
Padraig plays this week at the Genesis Scottish Open. The field this week is a who’s who of golf with the four current Major Champions all playing. It is a fitting prelude to the Open Championship and will provide a stiff test before the 150th Open at St. Andrews. Padraig is in a good run of form having won his first Senior Major title and setting the course record at Adare during the week at the JP McManus Pro Am so he will be raring to go!
Tee Times – Padraig plays with Jason Kokrak and Rickie Fowler on Thursday at 12.45pm and Friday at 7.35am!
