Padraig shoots a five over par round of 75 to miss the cut at this years PGA Championship. He got off to a bright start with a birdie on the first where he holed from 50 feet but three dropped shots in a row from the 5th hole had him out in two over par. The only bright spot on the back nine was a tap in birdie on the par four 17th as he dropped four more shots coming home. Nine under par leads the tournament heading into the weekend.
Padraig had a day to forget in the opening round of the PGA Championship at Southern Hills. The former champion got off to the worst possible start when he found the creek off the tee at the second hole and ran up a double bogie six. He only made two birdies on a day where he holed nothing of note and had a whopping 33 putts for the round. Further bogies followed to have him out in 38 shots and a run of four dropped shots in five holes to finish had him signing for a seven over par round of 77. It was a day where he found multiple bunkers and was plugged twice and nothing seemed to go right. He tees off Friday at 1.31pm and will need something under par to make the cut.
Padraig plays this week at the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is a previous winner of the event back in 2008 and memorably finished tied 4th last year with fellow countryman, Shane Lowry. The defending champion, Phil Mickelson, does not play this week but the field is one of the strongest to tee it up all year. The course is a gem, and will test the players with length and clever bunkering around the greens. The run-offs ensure a variety of short game shots and the winner will have navigated some really tricky greens. Finally, a creek meanders its way throughout the property and comes into play on multiple holes. This is not a course for the faint hearted!
Tee Times – Padraig tees off Thursday at 8.06am and Friday at 1.31pm with Jason Dufner and Stewart Cink.
