Final round of level par 72 sees Padraig finish in a tie for 18th place at the SAS Championship. He got off to a slow start with a couple of dropped shots early on at the 2nd and 4th holes where he found rough both times off the tee. He bounced back with a birdie three on the 9th hole to be out in 37 shots. He picked up another shot at the short par three 11th hole before swapping a birdie and bogey on the way home. His six under par total was six shots shy of a playoff for the title!
A superb second round of five under par 67 sees Padraig jump up the field to tied 5th place with a round to go. He now trails the leaders by only two shots. Starting on the back nine, he raced to five under par after just eight holes but dropped a shot on the par four 18th where he took three to get down on the green. He fought back well when he chipped in for birdie on the par four 4th hole and then picked up another shot at the par five 7th hole which he reached in two shots. But a final dropped shot on the par three 8th hole had him sign for a 67.
Padraig opens his account at the SAS Championship with a round of one under par 71. The par fives were kind as he played the three of them in four under par but a double bogie six on the par four 5th hole twarted a good score for the day. Seven under par leads going into the second round! Padraig tees off at 9.50am local time.
Padraig plays his second event on the PGA Champions Tour as he tees it up at the SAS Championship.
Tee Times – Padraig plays with Bernhard Langer and Jerry Kelly at 12.15pm in the opening round Friday.
