A final round of one over par 73 sees Padraig finish in a tie for 69th place on three over par at the Valero Texas Open. He got off to a slow start with a dropped shot on the first but picked it up at the par five 2nd hole. Another birdie followed at the 5th hole but he then dropped two consecutive shots to be out in 37 shots. He again started the back nine slowly with two early dropped shots but rescued the round with two closing birdies on the 16th and 18th holes where he was close both times. Jordan Spieth returned to the winners circle after a three year absence with an 18 under par total score.
Padraig shoots a third round of two over par after a tough start. He was out in four over par after a poor front nine, he got off to a terrible start with a wayward drive, leading to his first dropped shot. He followed this with three straight pars but then dropped three more shots in four holes. Another bogie came at the par three 13th hole where he three putted from distance but he stormed home with three birdies in his next four holes to sign for a 74. He tees off Sunday at 11.07am local time.
Padraig records a second round of two over par 74 in tough conditions to comfortably make the cut which came at two over par. In the most unusual round, Padraig failed to make a birdie, recording sixteen pars and two lone dropped shots both down to bunker trouble. It has been a long time since that has happened on the course. Nine under leads on a fairly tight leaderboard so anything under par over the weekend will pay great dividends if the wind continues to blow. Padraig tees off in the third round at 10.05am local time with Ryan Palmer and Luke List.
Padraig opens his account in Texas with a very pleasing round of two under par 70. Starting on the back nine, he got off to a quick start with a birdie on his second hole where he hit his second shot close. A dropped shot followed at the short par three 13th hole where he found a greenside bunker but he picked up another shot at the next par three to be out in 35 shots. Two quick birdies followed on the 2nd and 3rd holes to get him to three under for the day. Two bogies and a birdie to finish had him sign for a 70 which leaves him in a tie for 13th place going into Fridays second round.
Padraig plays this week at the Valero Texas Open. It is being played at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course which is a tough layout with tight fairways and undulating greens. Throw in the windy conditions of Texas and you need to be strong in every department of the game to prevail here. It plays to a par 72 of nearly 7,500 yards. The scoring average in 2019, (event canceled 2020), was 71.2. Corey Connors, who was a Monday qualifier, is your defending champion.
