In his capacity as a Global Ambassador for Special Olympics, Padraig will show his support for Special Olympic athletes by wearing some very special shoe laces at The Players Championship at in TPC Sawgrass this month. Padraig will wear the distinctive Special Olympics emblazoned red shoe laces to send a message of respect, acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities to the millions of golf fans across the world who will tune into one of the biggest tournaments on the golfing calendar.
The Special Olympics “Wear the Laces” campaign invites people to buy and wear these specially designed laces so they can walk side by side with Special Olympic athletes and be tied by a common thread of respect and inclusion. Padraig said “I hope by wearing the Laces for Special Olympics I will not only raise awareness but also I will show my support for the athletes, families and volunteers who are the heartbeat of Special Olympics”.
As a Global Ambassador for Special Olympics since May 2010, Padraig has conducted a number of golf clinics with Special Olympics athletes and coaches throughout the world. With over 4 million athletes in over 170 countries, Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organisation, providing year-round training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
