Life is a lot easier when you play badly and then all of a sudden you get in contention and win one. No one gets on your back. When you finish runner-up seven times, everyone is asking, 'Why aren't you winning?' It's much more fun when you jump into a win out of the blue. It's a much tougher game when you play consistently well.

Waste Management Phoenix Open

It was another missed cut, however after not hitting balls on Monday or Tuesday before then pulling out of the pro-am, it wasn't a big surprise. I had hoped that I would get to play the four rounds as I know that it is time on a course in competitive play that I really need.

Even though I am carrying an injury I felt that I was better in Phoenix then in San Diego - I could see a lot of improvement in each round. My speed is still down but for the moment there is nothing I can do about this - my missed cut had more to do with not creating enough birdie chances rather than speed. I played well enough to make the cut but I just wasn't able to give myself good opportunities. That said, I needed to play the last two holes in one under par to make the cut, but I played them in one over. I wasn't able to chip and putt the 17th for a birdie and then I hit my drive in the water on 18. It was extremely disappointing to finish that way - just missing the cut is always worse than missing it by a lot.

The only upside of missing the cut in Phoenix was that I could attend the concerts in the evening. It's a great tournament with lots going on, you only wish that you play well enough so that you?re not out enjoying it like I was!

My neck problem wasn't any better and I am still numb in my finger. I will see how it goes next week and then if it's no better, I will get some more tests done. Hopefully a few days rest will help it.

This has been an unusual week for me so far. After getting my injection on Sunday I was told not to hit shots for a few days, which meant taking it easy on Monday and Tuesday - it was funny trying to kill time but somewhat easy as well.

Luckily I'm not in pain with the trapped nerve. The only issue is that my index finger is numb and more importantly for me, I have lost power in my swing. Even when I'm hitting shots I'm not sore in any way, so to have to do nothing for a couple of days is weird for me.

I pulled out of the pro-am so as to give myself more time to recover. I did hit some shots on Wednesday but mainly wedges and then a few seven irons - I had no ill effects and was happy with what I saw. I also did some putting and chipping, as well as a few chipping competitions with Shane Lowry.

In terms of my game I'm unsure what is going to come out in my first round as I haven't had a chance to work on anything since last week. However, I'm really looking forward to the week as this is one of the best tournaments of the year - it is a big party that happens to have a golf event going on in the middle of it and the highlight of the week is the 16th hole.

I'm off late/early with Charley Hoffman and Ryan Moore - hopefully my game is in good shape!!

Talk soon,
Padraig.
